NCA licensed equipment hire specialists with 15+ years experience. Complete tower crane lifecycle packages — erection, monthly hire, climbing and dismantling as one bundled figure.
What the Package Covers
A complete tower crane package spans the full lifecycle:
- Delivery and erection — assist mobile crane, mast sections, jib, counter-jib; 2-5 days
- Base coordination — engineered base design guidance, anchor bolts, leveling (the concrete itself is usually the client's cost)
- Monthly hire — crane, certified operator, maintenance, inspections, insurance
- Climbing or re-ties as the building rises, quoted per stage
- Dismantling and demobilization — 1-3 days at program end
- Documentation — load charts, inspection certificates, operator credentials
Component cost detail: tower crane rental prices; the erection phase: erection process guide; high-rise selection: high-rise crane guide.
Package Costs
| Component | Cost (KES) |
|---|---|
| Monthly hire (6-12t, with operator) | 400,000 - 800,000 |
| Self-erecting alternative (monthly) | 250,000 - 450,000 |
| Erection (with assist crane) | 150,000 - 400,000 |
| Dismantling | 100,000 - 300,000 |
| Climbing / re-tie per stage | 50,000 - 150,000 |
| Concrete base (usually client) | 200,000 - 600,000 |
| Mobilization | 30,000 - 100,000 |
Package quotes discount the bundle 10-15% against itemized pricing. Mobile crane rate context: our crane hire rates guide.
Erection Phase
- 2-5 days depending on final height and access: base verification, mast raise, slewing unit, jib and counter-jib, rigging and tests
- Schedule discipline: the base must be cured and verified before erection starts — booking erection against an unready base bills mobilization and standby
- Weather window: wind above 12-14 m/s stops jib work — protocols in our erection guide
Operation and Climbing
- Monthly hire covers: crane, operator, routine maintenance in low-activity windows, periodic inspections, insurance
- Usually excluded: operator overtime and night premiums, site power, climbing stages, misuse damage, weather downtime
- Climbing stages: 2-5 on a typical high-rise, each KES 50,000-150,000 — plan them into the program budget from day one
- Long-program negotiations: operator rotation, breakdown response commitments, rate locks — the clause discipline applies
Dismantling Phase
Dismantling reverses erection — jib and counter-jib first, mast lowered progressively — 1-3 days plus the assist mobile crane. Timing is a cost decision: a crane standing past its useful program bills full monthly rate, but dismantling too early and renting mobile cranes for finishing usually costs more. The decision point: compare one month's hire against the cumulative mobile crane alternative, per our tower-vs-mobile comparison.
Worked Example: 15-Storey, 12-Month Program
Hidden Costs to Budget
- Oversail and airspace permissions — county-dependent, sometimes neighbor consent; responsibilities in writing per our compliance guide
- Site power — 3-phase connection and consumption
- Weather downtime — monthly billing continues through still days
- Late program extension — the crane outlives its planned role at full rate
